Teaser Trailer
The audience is immediately drawn in to the teaser trailer from the non-diegetic music. This is a key aspect of the teaser trailer as it is the first thing that the audience finds out about the film. This non-diegetic music continues throughout the teaser trailer and builds up as it progresses. It sound mysterious and magical which interests young audiences. There is also a non-diegetic voiceover. This speaks to the audience as if they are Harry Potter and they are the one who is going to Hogwarts. It interests the audience by using the personal pronoun ‘you’.
The editing also is a key aspect of this teaser trailer. It uses a fast cutting speed at an average of three seconds with a regular cutting rhythm. The speed at which the clip is cut increases slightly when the close ups of many of the characters are seen and when the non-diegetic music speeds up. It also uses fade out to cut from one scene to another smoothly.
The mise-en-scene used in this teaser trailer is costumes and props. All of the students wear black robes, white shirts and black ties and have magic wands. One of the characters has a witch’s hat and another is dressed as a wizard. By showing the costumes and the props the audience are able to recognise them from the book and become interested in them because they are unusual as they are not the clothes normal students wear. Mythical creatures are also shown, showing the magical world. The use of the prop of wands is also important as it creates an interest with the unreal and escapism from current times.
The camera work in this teaser trailer shows a variety of camera angles to show a sense of action and to keep the audience interested. The camera angles used are high angle, mid shot, zoom in, establishing shot, long shot, two person shot, close up, extreme close up and low angle.
The main character, Harry Potter, is shown straight away. The voiceover then talks about the main character but refers to him as the view, by using the personal pronouns ‘you’ and ‘your’. The other character are then introduced through camera angles, mainly close ups. Locations such as the dining hall are also given away through camera angles. This is given away as the characters and plot are already known by most people, from reading the book.
Tension has been created where a close up of a bolt on the door is shown and diegetic sounds of lightning can be heard as the weather is stereotypically used to represent the mood of the film. Lightning is stereotypically viewed as scary. By using this, the audience is anxious to see what is what is behind the door that the lightning is behind and what will happen next.
The teaser trailer then ends with the title of the film against a dark clouded background and the date of release of the film with the tag-line ‘The Magic Begins’, to interest the audience.
Magazine

The image on the front cover of the magazine is of the main character and an object, the owl. It is a mid shot and shows the character in costume, therefore more recognisable to people which film it is. The image may also be recognised from the book, through description and illustrations. The head of the character has been photo-manipulated to appear in front of the main heading, where the background of the image appears behind the title. This is to make the character stand out and immediately grab the attention of the audience.
The main heading of this magazine reads: “EMPIRE” and the typography is red, large, in a clear and easy to read font and has been placed behind the image. The sub-heading of the magazine is larger than the main heading, but is not as brighter colour, it reads “Harry Potter”. The use of this sub-heading being in a large font is to attract the audience who would recognise the name from the books. There is other sub-heading that is in a smaller font because it is not as important as the film's title therefore does not need as much attention.
The colour scheme that this magazine appears to have is a red/brown. In places where there is too much red it has been toned down by text written in yellow. The use of the text in brighter colours to the background is to attract attention and interest the audience with harmonising colours.
Poster
This poster uses images of six of the main characters to gain interest from the audience. This would help make the audience familiar with the characters before they see the film, as there are many and the audience wouldn’t want to be confused. Another use for displaying the main characters is that people who have read the book might recognise who each of the characters are and by recognising the characters they might gain an interest to see whether the film is as good as the book. The composition of the poster has the main character (Harry Potter) largest and in the top half of the poster. The other characters and the train then curve around him, so that the attention is not taken away from him. Each of the characters is wearing their costumes from the film. The use of characters in costume would interest the audience as it would make them feel like they have an insight to what the film will look like.
There is not a lot of typography on the poster. The film title is situated just below the centre of the frame and is in yellow. The yellow helps the typography to stand out from the background and be easily recognised. There is a tag-line/slogan placed at the very top of the poster which reads: “Journey beyond your imagination”. This tag-line would interest the audience as it makes them begin to question the use of their imagination and would intrigue them into wanting to see what will happen.
Representation
In these three texts the males are viewed subversively as the main character appears amazed and worried by the events that are showing in the teaser trailer.
Collective Identity
The collective identity given to Britain from these three texts is that we are all magical wizards, who wear long black robes to go to school.
Audience

Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Mystery
Rated: 7.2/10 by 124,324 people
Overall
The link between the teaser trailer, magazine cover and poster is the main character. The main character is Harry Potter and is the common point of the teaser trailer, because the events follow him, the magazine front cover, as he is in the centre of the frame and the poster because he is the largest pictured character.
