During my A2 Media Studies Advanced Production I intend to carry out a variety of planning and research for a promotional package for a new film. The promotional package must consist of a teaser trailer and a poster and a magazine front cover featuring the film. The research that I intend to carry out will consist of both primary and secondary.
My secondary research will begin by researching into cinema and different genres of films. I will also look at existing research of the audience and the target audience for specific genres of film. Leading on from this I will then begin to look into teaser trailers, posters and magazine front covers. Firstly I will look at teaser trailers, posters and magazine covers and make sure that they link to the same film. That way I can see the links that occur between the three and how they are related. Once I have found the conventions of the three and what makes them work I will then start to look at trailers, posters and magazine covers with the same genre to see how they are similar and how they are different. Then, I will look at different genres of film to see how their trailers, posters and magazine covers differ from other genres.
An example of looking into existing products would be to watch teaser trailers over Internet sites such as
Along side looking at existing products and seeing how they work I will also investigate into a 'How to create a...' guide for a teaser trailer, poster and magazine. This will also include looking specifically at techniques that teaser trailers use to attract peoples attention and layouts of magazines and posters. From this I will then analyse the guides to see how successful they are in their creation and how accurately they match the research that I have done.
As well as secondary research I will also carry out a series of primary research. My primary research will include a questionnaire aimed at a variety of different people with a variety of opinions investigating into genre. This will include a variety of different genres and the option for the people being questioned to select their favourite and least favourite genres allowing reasons to be selected. This will be asked to a large variety of people, so that I can gain a larger understanding of the most and least popular genres. From this questionnaire I can then go on to research and ask what people like about specific genres. Extending my research from questionnaires I can also create a discussion forum where by trailers, posters and magazine front covers that I have found can be seen by a variety of people, where I can find out whether people like or dislike them and their reasons for doing so. I could also do a questionnaire in asking people's opinions of film posters and magazines to see what people think is appealing and why they would pick up a specific magazine or poster opposed to another one.
Then from this research I will then be able to piece together people's opinions of teaser trailers, posters and magazine covers and genres. From this I will be able to find out the genre preferred by a specific audience. This will then help me in my creation of my product. From my secondary research I will be able to find out the most popular style of teaser trailers, posters and magazine front covers. Concluding my research together I will then have found out the most popular genre, why it is liked, the techniques used and required in a teaser trailer, poster and magazine front cover and how to successfully link the three.

Plan: The task that has been set
In my A2 Media Advanced Production Portfolio in order to create my Film Teaser Trailer, Magazine front cover and Poster I need to carry out both primary and secondary research before beginning the production work.
For my secondary research I will look at the work of others for evidence of previous production work. This may include audiences favourite teaser trailers or genre. Looking into the advertising industry as a teaser trailer, magazine front covers and posters are all forms of advertising.
For my primary research I will carry out a series of questionnaires to find out the most popular genre and the target audience for the preferred genre. I will use a forum to post a selection of Teaser Trailers and receive feedback of peoples thoughts and opinions of the Teaser Trailers to see if they were liked. I will also analyse existing products of both my main and ancillary texts.
As well as primary and secondary research I will also look into the different software that can be used and make note of which I will use and how and why I chose to do so.
Leading on from research I will then begin the production process. This will include my initial ideas, the treatment, production schedule, Teaser Trailer script, the shot list, storyboard, location recce, costume sketches, lighting tests, test shots, shooting schedule, editing decision lists, draft of magazine and poster layout, font tests, sketches for photographs and images, shooting schedule for photography, draft magazine and posters.
Alongside my research I will also create strict deadlines for when particular areas of my production should be and will be completed by. (To begin the deadlines my research must be completed by 29th January).
After my production, while evaluating my work I will include screenshots as evidence of the technology used, I will use specific terminology and will gain feedback from my products from the target audience.
